Prayer to Lord Ganesha for removal of all obstacles
gajaananam bhootagaNaadi sEvitam
kapitta jamboophalasaara-bhakSHitam I
umaasutam shOkavinaasha-kaaraNam
namaami vighnEshvara paadapankajam II
I prostrate at the lotus feet of Vighneshwara the elephantfaced Lord, Served by hordes of divine followers, the enjoyer of the essence and juice of wood-apple and jamuns (rose-apple), son of Uma Devi, and the cause of destruction of grief. 1
mooSHikavaahana mOdakahasta
chaamarakarNa vilambitasootra I
vaamana-roopa mahEshvara-putra
vighnavinaayaka paadanamastE II
I bow down in salutation at the feet of Vinayaka who is the remover of grief, who has a mouse as his vehicle, has a modaka (sweet delicacy) in his hand, whose ears are like broad fans, whose sacred thread is long slinging loosely, who has dwarfish form and who is the son of Great Ishwara (God Shiva). 2
agajaanana padmaarkam gajaananamaharnisham I
anEkadantam bhaktaanaam Ekadantam upaasmahE II
I propitiate day and night that Lord with a single tusk, who is elephant-faced, who showers brilliance on the lotus face of his mother Parvati and bestower of innumerable graces to his devotees. 3
vakratunDa mahaakaaya kOTisoorya samaprabha I
avighnam kuru mE dEva sarvakaaryESHu sarvadaa II
O! God with a curved trunk! Dazzling with the brilliance of a crore of suns, kindly make all my actions free from obstructions by all means. 4
sumukhashchaikadantashcha kapilO gajakarNakaha I
lambOdarashcha vikaTO vighnaraajO vinaayakaha II
He has a pleasing face, sports a single tusk, is brownish red in complexion, possesses ears like an elephant, has a large belly, is humourous in nature, a ruler (destroyer) of all impediments and is an exalted master. 5
dhoomakEtuhu gaNaadhyakSHaha
phaalachandrO gajaananaha I
vakratuNDaha shoorpakarNO
hErambhaha skandapoorvajaha II
He resembles smoke in colour, leader of hordes, sports the crescent of the moon on his forehead, has a face of an elephant, has a curved trunk, with ears like a winnow, resident of the region of Herambha and is the elder brother of Skanda (Subrahmanya).
SHODashaitaani naamaani
yah paTHEt shruNuyaadapi
vidyaarambhE vivaahE cha I
pravEshE nirgamE tathaa
sangraamE sarva kaaryESHu
vighnastasya na jaayatE II
For one who recites these sixteen names (verses 5 & 6 above) or listens to them also at the commencement of learning, in marriage, and while entering and similarly while going out, in struggles and in all actions, no impediments arise for him at all.7
praNamya shirasaa dEvam
gaureeputram vinaayakam I
bhaktaavaasam smarEnnityam
aayuh kaamaarthasiddhayE II
For one bowing down with his head to the great Lord one should meditate upon Vinayaka, son of Gauri, residing in (heart) his devotees for longevity of life and success in actions. 8
prathamam vakratuNDam cha
Ekadantam dviteeyakam I
tRteeyam kRSHNa-pingaakSHam
gajavaktram chaturthakam II
(One should meditate upon) at first on the curved-trunked Lord, secondly on the one with a single tusk, thirdly the one who has a blackish brown eyes and fourthly has a face resembling an elephant. 9
lambOdaram panchamam cha
SHaSHTHam vikaTamEva cha I
saptamam vighnaraajam cha
dhoomravarNam tathaasSHTamam II
(One should meditate upon) fifthly the Lord with a large belly, sixthly the one with a funny body, seventhly the ruler (destroyer) of all obstacles and eighthly the one with a complexion of smoky hue. 10
navamam phaalachandram cha
dashamam tu vinaayakam I
Ekaadasham gaNapatim
dvaadasham tu gajaananam II
(One should meditate upon) ninethly the Lord with the crescent of the moon on his forehead, the supreme master tenthly, eleventhly the Lord of hordes and twelfthly the Lord with an elephant’s face. 11
dvaadashaitaani naamaani
trisandhyam yah paTHEnnaraha I
na cha vighnabhayam tasya
sarvasiddhikaram param II
He who recites these twelve names (verses 9, 10 and 11 above) three times in a day will be freed from the fear of impediments and will achieve supreme success. 12
vidyaarthee labhatE vidyaam
dhanaarthee labhatE dhanam I
putraarthee labhatE putraan
mOkSHaarthee labhatE gatim II

A student will acquire learning, one desirous of wealth will obtain wealth, one who is praying for offspring will secure children and a seeker of salvation will be conferred liberation. 13
japEd gaNapatistOtram
SHaDbhirmaasaihi phalam labhEt I
samvatsarENa siddhim cha
labhatE naastra samshayaha II
There is no doubt in this that one who recites the prayer verses
on Ganapati will secure fruit for his desires within a period of six months and secure success in all his ventures in a year’s time. 14
aSHTabhyO braahmaNEbhyashcha
likhitvaa yah samarpayEt 1
tasya vidyaa bhavEt sarvaa
gaNEshasya prasaadataha II
One who writes this verse and submits it to eight brahmins (in modern times donate eight books, one each to a brahmin), he shall possess all knowledge with the grace of Lord Ganesha. 15
